Warrior Tank Model

Another completed project involved me creating the centre piece for a high profile Armoured Vehicle Training Simulator. My task was to create an accurate representation of the Warrior Tank, from supplied data and photographs.

The model had to have articulated parts, such as rotating wheels, the rotating turret, the gun barrel needed to raise and lower, as well as the drivers hatch had to open and close.

To accomplish this I used the Flight Studio plugin in 3DS max which allowed me to create the required degrees of Freedom (DOF's) and different levels of detail (LOD's) required, so that it could be exported into the customers required format of OpenFlight (.flt)

The model itself is made from just under 6,000 triangles at its highest LOD. It is fully unwrapped and has 4 textures. The model shown here also has a normal and specular map applied to it.

The model itself was created for XPI Simulation Ltd, who had been awarded the contract to provide a research simulator for amoured vehicle driver training by the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (Dstl), who are part of the Ministry of Defence (MoD). Further details can be found here; XPI Simulation.

Whitford Golf Course

This is my second golf course that I have completed, for a golf simulation project.

The project involved me modelling and texturing all the buildings and objects around the course in 3D.

The textures had to be done in a specific style set by the client and involved creating Normal and specular maps.

I am currently working on a number of other golf courses including Medinah which hosts the Ryder Cup this year, so keep an eye on my blog and facebook page for updates very soon.

If you have any type of 3D work that you need to be completed, then please do not hesitate to get in touch and we can discuss your requirements.

Quicksilver Golf Course

I have just completed a project that involved creating the assets for the Quicksilver Golf course for use in a Golf Simulation/Game. Here are some 'in game' screen shots showing the course in all its glory.

All the building models that I created has to be textured in a certain style, all the textures had to be very clean looking, and had to include normal and specular maps for each object.

The terrain for the golf course was generated from LIDAR data.

Model Optimisation - Hand Bag Game Ready 3D Model

I have just recently finished work optimising a 3D model of a Chanel Hand bag, to be used within Second Life.

The work involved creating a low poly version from a high resolution mesh, I also baked out all the textures, and created colour, normal and specular maps which can be used in other real time engines.

Toronto Motorsport Park (Cayuga) - Closer Look at some of the Objects

Yesterday I posted about my recently completed Race Track, Toronto Motorsport Park.

I have decided to showcase some of the assets that I have created whilst working on the track, so that you can look at them in more detail.

One of the main objects that I have created was the Grand Stands/Bleachers.

I believe this building to be the race control building but  I could be wrong.

A Metal Structure found at the start of the track.

Some generic hut building that is located over towards the main grandstands.

Now you have seen some of the more interesting objects have a look out for them around my track.

Low Poly Billboard - Game Asset

Here is a little object that I have been working on recently. It is a billboard that contains an advert to my website www.markshires.com and will be used as a way of trying to promote myself.

The Model shown is a real-time model that is displayed in-game. I hope to include this model in most of the work that I produce as a kind of watermark.

The model has been created and textured in one texture containing a colour, diffuse and a specular map, and could be used in most game engines such as Unity.

See if you can spot the billboard in my future work!

Herring Factory Game Level (Unity 3D) - Update 3

I have been busy these last few weeks with other things, however I have still managed to do a bit of texture work on the walls of the Herring Factory. There are still some fixes to be made in the textures in that they still tile quite a bit between the different sections, which I will try to fix next. I then aim to have the small rooms at the four corners of the main hall textured and also the end walls of the main hall to be textured too, I will probably have a complete room textured then and will release a version so that you can use the Unity Web player to have a walk around.

And I still need to finish the beams of across the room too, although I am still not quite sure what to do about these!

The walkway that you can see in the bottom right corner is going to be a wire mesh walkway eventually, the texture tiles quite bad too which will be fixed shortly.

Another little problem that I have is what to actually put in the two trenches along the length of the hall way, I was thinking I could try and animate some kind of crane thing manoeuvring up and down the room, which is another reason the beams haven't been completed yet. What do you think?

1970's Style Council House for Railworks Sim

I have just completed a model of a 1970's style council house for use with the Railworks Simulation Software.

The model contains roughly 400 polygons, and has been lightmapped, within 3Ds Max.
