Living Room Re-Design

My most recent visual, I've created this as a pre-visualisation of a re-design of my own living room, in anticipation of actual decorating it in the colour scheme, and with the displayed furniture ... one day!

All the modelling was done using 3Ds Max, and it ws rendered out using Vray.

School Building Extension - Visualisation

Another recent project involved me rendering out a design of a modern double storey extension which is to be added to an existing School building.

The extension was designed to be built using a number of different coloured bricks that give the extension a striking appearance.

The work was created using 3DS Max and Rendered using Vray, the actual design was designed by an architect and is not my own design.

For further Information regarding the Visualisation of your own designs and concepts or any other aspects of 3D work then please do not hesitate to get in touch.

Mountain Bike - 3D Render

A Recent Project was for for me to Render out a model of a Downhill Mountain Bike (a YT Industries - Tues).

The project didn't involve me having to create the model, but it did involve reworking some parts of it and re-texturing and adding the materials to the model.

And then obviously Rendering it out and all the Post Production work you can see in the final images.

The model was modified using 3DS max and and Rendered using Vray, and all the post production work was done in Adobe Photoshop. If you have anything that you would like me to produce for you then please do not hesitate to get in touch.

The original model was created by Jan Kostka, from Slovakia.

Product Rendering of an ISIDORO Stool

I have recently completed a product rendering of an ISIDORO Stool. Which also involved modelling the stool, as you can see it is a fairly complex shape to create.

The model was created using 3Ds Max and was Rendered out using Vray. The Stool was depicted using one of each of the 7 different subtle colour variations that the Stool is available in.

Please get in touch if you would like me to Create and/or Render anything out for you to visualise.

Interlachen Country Club - Golf Course Buildings

Another completed project that I worked on was to complete all the buildings seen around the Interlachen Golf Course. This consisted of various different huts, bridges, farmhouse buildings as well as the large clubhouse building.

All the models were modelled using 3DS Max, and the polygon count was kept as low as possible to not affect the frame rate when viewed in the sim.

Modified Late Model 3D Car for rFactor

One of the projects that I have worked during last year was to produce a Modified Late Racing Car (MRC), which is a specific race series in the USA. The car has been modelled in 3DS Max, from measurements supplied by the client based on there actual car. It was then converted to run inside rFactor with the clients own car physics and racers custom skins.

Have a look at my facebook page for more images and details of other projects that I have worked on. www.facebook.com/MarkShires3d

Golf Training Application - Background Image

A quick project that I was involved in was to create some background images for a Golf Training Application, allowing users to log various shots and there accuracy.

One of my images can be seen above with all the different overlays shown from the app. It has been created using 3Ds Max and rendered out using Vray.

Warrior Tank Model

Another completed project involved me creating the centre piece for a high profile Armoured Vehicle Training Simulator. My task was to create an accurate representation of the Warrior Tank, from supplied data and photographs.

The model had to have articulated parts, such as rotating wheels, the rotating turret, the gun barrel needed to raise and lower, as well as the drivers hatch had to open and close.

To accomplish this I used the Flight Studio plugin in 3DS max which allowed me to create the required degrees of Freedom (DOF's) and different levels of detail (LOD's) required, so that it could be exported into the customers required format of OpenFlight (.flt)

The model itself is made from just under 6,000 triangles at its highest LOD. It is fully unwrapped and has 4 textures. The model shown here also has a normal and specular map applied to it.

The model itself was created for XPI Simulation Ltd, who had been awarded the contract to provide a research simulator for amoured vehicle driver training by the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (Dstl), who are part of the Ministry of Defence (MoD). Further details can be found here; XPI Simulation.
For enquiries regarding any 3D projects, please do not hesitate to get in touch with me markshires@gmail.com and we can discus your requirements further.

Basement Lab Scene

I have recently completed a project requiring me to create a basement lab scene which took its inspiration from Frankenstein's Lab and the works of HP Lovecraft. The final images are black and white and are to be used as a background in a game.

The game has a working title of 'The Forbidden' and should be released later on this year. I will let you know further details regarding the platforms etc. as I know them.

American Civil War Exhibition Visualisation

A recently completed project of mine was to create a visualisation of an Exhibition stand, based on the American Civil War. The design was originally created by Abrams Associates Design found at www.aaexhibits.com

All the models were created using 3DS Max and rendered using Vray.

I am now looking into the possibility of creating a real-time scene, enabling the user to explore the scene and preview the exhibition. So keep an eye out for that in the not too distant future.

3D Pixel Movie Characters

Over the last couple of weeks I have been looking into a few things using 3DS Max, I found a plugin that allows you to take an image and transform it into 3D pixels.

Here are some of the results that I have achieved when rendering the characters using Mental Ray. They are all famous Movie Characters from some iconic films, can you guess who they all are?

On a side not I take no credit for the original designs of these pixel characters, the original designs are from this site here http://drawn.ca/archive/pixeljoint/

FA Cup - 3D Model

My Latest model is of the FA Cup, I was going to wait until the final to unveil it however the semi final is this coming weekend so it is as good a time as any.

The model was created using 3Ds Max and rendered using V-Ray. I have used displacement maps to create the majority of the detail.

More images can be seen on my facebook page for anyone that is interested.

Robotic Arm Rig - 3Ds Max

Here is a recent rig that I have set up using 3Ds Max. I have created a Robotic Arm which will eventually be used for my Herring Factory game level. (More details to follow soon)

I have set up the rig and tested the animation and it works well so far.

I still have to unwrap the model and then texture it, but hopefully I should be able to integrate it into Unity and get it working in my game level. Check back soon for further details.

Cell Shaded Cartoon Bull

I have been playing around with using Cell Shading lately which gives your models a cartoon look.
To experiment I have used my Bull that I modelled as part of the Canimation project.

I was quite please with the effects that I managed to produce, what do you think?

I think the bull looks quite mean, and the cell shader, adds more emphasis on the muscle contours.

And another view showing the back of the bull.

Herring Factory Game Level (Unity 3D) - Update 1

In between doing various other work I have also been working on a personal project of mine which is to create a sample game level which will work within Unity 3D. The inspiration for this level came from some images I found of an abandoned Herring Factory. You will find more details of this in one of my earlier blog posts.

So far I have managed to block the complete level out, I have also imported it into Unity 3D and created my camera system so that you can walk around the level and have a good look around. I have started to split the level into sections so that I only need to model certain repeated parts once. In doing so the level is a bit of a mess at the current stage and there are a fair few holes for you to fall through and a few flashing polygons. Once I have sorted these issues out I will post an update using the Unity web player so that you can all have a good look around the level for yourselves. Hopefully this will be in the next couple of days so please come back soon.

Anyway alongside this I have also created a couple of assets that will form part of my level.

The first asset that I have created is a large rusted pipe. These will be located along either side of my main room. The Image shown is just a 3Ds Max view port render. It uses Diffuse, Normal and Specular maps.

The second asset that I have created is one of the doors, that will be used in my level. The door will be a slide door, like a lift (elevator). Again the image shown is a 3Ds Max view port render. The model also uses a Diffuse, Normal and Specular Map.

Hopefully the next post I make will include a working level in which you can have a look around the Herring Factory within Unity.

If you 'like' my facebook page (on the right) then you will automatically be notified of my updates.

1970's Style Council House for Railworks Sim

I have just completed a model of a 1970's style council house for use with the Railworks Simulation Software.

The model contains roughly 400 polygons, and has been lightmapped, within 3Ds Max.
