Another completed project involved me creating the centre piece for a high profile Armoured Vehicle Training Simulator. My task was to create an accurate representation of the Warrior Tank, from supplied data and photographs.
The model had to have articulated parts, such as rotating wheels, the rotating turret, the gun barrel needed to raise and lower, as well as the drivers hatch had to open and close.
To accomplish this I used the Flight Studio plugin in 3DS max which allowed me to create the required degrees of Freedom (DOF's) and different levels of detail (LOD's) required, so that it could be exported into the customers required format of OpenFlight (.flt)
The model itself is made from just under 6,000 triangles at its highest LOD. It is fully unwrapped and has 4 textures. The model shown here also has a normal and specular map applied to it.
The model itself was created for XPI Simulation Ltd, who had been awarded the contract to provide a research simulator for amoured vehicle driver training by the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (Dstl), who are part of the Ministry of Defence (MoD). Further details can be found here;
